Purchase Samsung PN50C550 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV (Black)
The price of this set was another determining factor. I paid less for this 50" set than I did my previous 40/42" sets and am enjoying it more than I did the LCD sets. As far as the picture goes, I am thrilled with the picture I get from over-the-air stations in HD from Michigan, as well as blu-ray. I have not calibrated the set yet as I am still in the process of letting the set get as many hours in as I can before doing so. There is some image retention especially if I am watching a movie with black bars at top or bottom. I simply leave the set on for another half hour or so while on an HD channel (over-the-air) so that it fills the screen, and it goes away. I don't need or use any of the wireless or other options that are available on the C590 which is why I stayed with the C550,
On another note, my previous (lcd) sets were around 40-42 inches. I had purchased a 47" LCD but returned it due to being able to see the lines (pixels) in the set when you sit any closer than 8 to 10 feet. I returned the 47" lcd for a 42" lcd. I was a little worried I would see this even more in the 50" plasma and I am happy to say, that I do not! Moving images like sports and action movies are also awesome to watch.
This set is in a family room with very low lighting so reflection and brightness are not an issue for me. By the way, there is absolutely 'zero buzzing' from this TV.
Like I mentioned, I have not properly callibrated the set and so far everything looks absolutely terrific. I do notice however, that I do not get the same 'brightness' while watching Pixar movies (UP and Toy Story) as I did with the LCD. They still look great but just not as bright as LCD. Probably just something I was use to with LCD and now need to adjust to with Plasma. Mind you, I don't watch many of these types of movies and that is the only 'con' I have at the present time. I am sure I could adjust the brightness, if I had to, within the settings but it's a non-issue for me.
As a previous 'fence-sitter' I have no qualms now about making the jump from LCD to Plasma and highly recommend this set if you are thinking of purchasing a new Plasma. If you want the extra bells and whistles then I would suggest the C590.

Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-L26X1 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV Get it now!
We had a 22" Insignia tv that was purchased at Best Buy that was the worst in angle viewing the picture would almost black out at certain angles. I had to tilt it so that it could be viewed at a decent picture level. The Insignia TV would not accept the HDMI hookup from my Verizon Fios HD Cable Box, I could only use component cables.
Well this Panasonic was picture perfect upon turn on. It also accepted the HDMI cable hookup from my Verizon Fios Cable Box. The setup was simple from the remote and I love that I can connect my IPod to the IPod port that is supplied with the TV. This TV even allows you to view any videos or movies that you store on the IPod. Great work Panasonic on this exceptional TV. This TV was well worth the money that I spent. It seems that anytime aI purchase a Panasonic product that I am always pleased.
Amazon was the cheapest price and Fed Ex delivery was superb. Thanks Amazon and Thanks Panasonic ..... "Just slightly ahead of their time".

Plasma Vs LCD HDTV

Image : http://www.flickr.com
LCD vs plasma HDTV - which is best? If you are looking for a flat screen, slim and sexy display, to watch HDTV, you have a choice of two technologies, LCD and plasma gas.
Each has advantages and disadvantages of each so that more accurate in specific
conditions.
Historically, LCD vs Plasma HDTV selection is very simple. If you want to
even the display of 40in or greater, you need to choose plasma, otherwise you
shouldselect the LCD. However, as increasing LCD technology, the LCD HDTV
larger and most major manufacturers expect the number of their LCD
produce grown continuously during the next few years while the number of plasmas
decreased. However, if you're looking for flatscreen TV today, plasma still has a lot of
offer.
To understand the LCD vs plasma HDTV question, we need to see how
two technologies to work.
LCD
LCD HDTV work withshining with the light behind the LCD panel consists of a number of fixed
pixels. Each pixel a good red, blue or green and is activated when the active or inactive
tension applied to it. When tension is applied to pixel, the disabled,
which means that no light can shine through it.
The main profit of plasma vs. LCD HDTV is that LCD panels do not suffer
what's called burn-in. This is a feature of plasma TV where they used to watch
TV station logopermanently displayed on the screen or where they used to
video game with a game that has a static image such as the cockpit in flight
simulator. Photos literally 'burn-in' display means that even when
the picture does not appear you can still see the vague impression on the display. So for video
gamer in particular, LCD is better choice than plasma.
Plasma
Plasma HDTV has more than one million homes a room or a combination of
gas. Whentension applied to one room which ionizes the gas and
emit ultra-violet light. This light strikes red, green or covered in plue phophors
in space and color of light emitting pixels.
Plasma HDTV is likely to have better contrast than LCDs because, even when a pixel
on the LCD panel is switched off does not prevent all light coming through and
Because the pixels are not completely black. Plasma HDTV also tend to have wider
view anglefrom the LCD, LCD HDTV such as the contrast and color pictures
changing the display when viewed from different angles.
LCD vs Plasma HDTV conclusion
Technology changes quickly, but at this time (July 2004) is still true to say that the
measurement of 40in and above, plasma offers a less expensive and generally better
solutions. To measure less than 40in LCD screen is better. However, as LCD technology
increased and prices down, this will change.

Discount Samsung PN42C450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV (Black)
First we hooked it up to his Standard Def. DVR box and he was very happy with the picture. He especially liked the color representation. A few weeks later when he got an HD DVR and connected it via HDMI, he was completely blown away at the clarity and quality of the image. He couldn't keep his eyes from the TV during the Yankees opening game. The speakers are adequate for viewing most TV shows, however they would be a bit lacking for dynamic audio in action type movies. I think the next step is to get my dad a Soundbar speaker system; small and easy to use/connect.
The only negatives I can see is the glass surface which is pretty reflective. Do not position the TV so it faces a window that cannot be fully blocked by blinds or drapes, otherwise you will have some reflections to deal with during dark scenes. Also the Remote is not very responsive and has a limited field of use and distance. However it may be that the included batteries have lost some of their charge. Will have to try with fresh batteries and/or a universal remote. I haven't notciced any "buzzing" sounds from the TV, however I wasn't listening for it the last time I was at my parents.
The TV is especially light for a plasma, heck it's even lighter than my 2008 120hz Samsung LCD and puts out less heat! How's that for improvements in Plasma technology?! There are plenty of legacy connections (composite and component) in addition to the 3 HDMI ports on the TV for hooking up both old and new devices. I will say that to get the best picture, you NEED to have an HD device connected to the TV using HDMI. It's worth it.
This TV provides a FANTASTIC bargain for people looking for an entry level HDTV.
