For clarification, when I bought this tv it was around $2550, and two pairs of rechargeable shutter glasses were around $350 (at the cheapest/most convenient prices for me. read: most convenient because I found rechargeable shutter glasses for about $30 cheaper each + sales tax, shipping and with much longer shipping times).
If you're reading this based on price-point, this setup cost me about $2900 overall (incl. 2 rechargeable glasses).
Maybe you're on the fence about whether you want to buy a 3DTV or not, especially considering you recently purchased an HDTV? Well, it certainly wouldn't hurt to wait. The 3D content available is LACKING and 2d->3d upscaling has failed to impress.
The 55" is certainly HUGE, especially if you're used to a 40-45" screen. That said, the picture quality is excellent and you will not be let down with the quality of this screen. This thing is SERIOUSLY thin. If you hang it up on a wall, it's now a frame with a portal to another world. If you're buying this for the aesthetics, you will not be disappointed.
If you're planning on using the built-in speakers, think again. Many people will probably say "wow, can't believe you would even THINK about using built-in speakers!" In reality, it really depends on the quality of the speakers. That said, the built in speakers are absolute garbage. Make sure you have a decent sound system if you want to purchase this TV.
The 3D?
Tough decision. I would review this TV based on it's 3D experience but I haven't really had a true 3D experience with this TV as of yet. I bought this for use with my PS3 but upscaling is, by and large, mostly a huge disappointment. It DOES work nicely with some games but so far I've found that it mostly hinders the experience rather than help it. (Note: I've yet to try to true 3D PS3 games: wipeout hd, motor storm, etc, simply because lack of interest in those titles. Getting around to the demos sometime.. hopefully.) Upscaling works sometimes but detracts image value and experience more often than not.
Overall:
If you're buying this TV as an upgrade in either screen size or image quality, you will be pleased.
If you're buying this TV for it's aesthetics, you will be pleased. I didn't think I'd like the silver finish (as black is the norm these days) but it actually looks much more pleasing than your standard black.
If you're buying this TV as a replacement, or currently don't even have one and want one that will be 3D ready for when real content comes out, do it. By all means, this is a great TV and I'm not disappointed with my purchase at all.
If you're buying this TV as an upgrade to your current HDTV simply because of 3D, wait until you know there is content out that you WANT to watch. Don't rely on 2d to 3d upscaling to justify the 3D price tag.
If you've got any questions, leave them in the replies and I'd be happy to answer them.
